Zonergy Delivers Over 10 MWh of 170Ah Sodium-ion Battery Cells for Energy Storage Projects

Zonergy has successfully completed the delivery of more than 10 MWh of sodium-ion battery cells for energy storage applications, marking another milestone in the large-scale commercialization of its sodium-ion battery technology.

The delivered products are 72174-type 170Ah sodium-ion battery cells, part of Zonergy’s “Arctic” sodium-ion battery series. The cells will be deployed in sodium-ion battery energy storage projects, including a project for a large state-owned enterprise and a PV + energy storage project in Xinjiang, China.

Customer testing has also reported strong cycling performance from the delivered cells.

The successful delivery demonstrates Zonergy’s growing capabilities in sodium-ion battery manufacturing, product consistency, quality control, and large-scale delivery, representing an important step from project-level validation toward broader commercial deployment.

From Project Validation to Large-Scale Sodium-ion Battery Delivery

The 72174-type 170Ah sodium-ion battery cells in this batch are the same model as those used in Zonergy’s Xizang energy storage project. Since the project began operation in 2025, the battery cells have been running continuously in complex environments, including high altitudes and low temperatures, accumulating real-world application data for product performance verification.

Du Songfei, the project’s executive director, revealed that the customer had a thorough understanding of the Xizang project’s operational status, real-time monitoring data, and battery cell performance from early on, which led to a high level of product recognition and accelerated the overall plan confirmation and project advancement. “We received the order at the end of May, started production in early June, and had everything completed and ready for shipment by early July. To align with the customer’s project schedule, the official delivery was made in August,” said Du Songfei.

Meanwhile, Zonergy’s mature product design and standardized production system also further shortened the cycle from demand confirmation to mass manufacturing. This order was based on mature, standardized battery cell products(170Ah sodium-ion battery cell), with only adaptive optimizations made to the electrolyte formula. Relying on existing production processes, internal operating standards, and quality control systems, the team quickly completed the process from product plan confirmation to the mass production and delivery of over 10 MWh, further demonstrating Zonergy’s capability to transition its sodium-ion battery products from project verification to large-scale market application.

Four Quality Gates for Sodium-ion Battery Manufacturing

For this batch delivery, Zonergy has integrated quality control throughout the entire process, from raw materials and mass production to finished product inspection and R&D verification.

1.Strict Raw Material Inspection

The Company has established a rigorous incoming material inspection system, covering nearly 23 categories of materials and nearly 80 inspection parameters, including positive and negative electrode materials, electrolytes, and separators. In addition to basic indicators like appearance, moisture content, and density, key performance metrics such as particle size, specific surface area, and electrical conductivity are also tested. For certain materials, professional third-party testing is conducted using methods like SEM, Raman spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), ensuring quality control from material performance to micro-structure and intercepting quality risks before production begins.

2.100% Inspection and MES-Based Traceability. Based on MES production management system, the Company digitally manages the entire battery cell manufacturing process, enabling real-time recording and traceability of production data, process parameters, and quality information. In addition, full inspection checkpoints for semi-finished products are set up at intermediate stages like coating and stacking. After the formation and grading process, all finished battery cells undergo 100% inspection for voltage, internal resistance, and capacity, ensuring that critical processes are governed by defined standards, key parameters are recorded, and product quality is traceable.

3.Strict Battery Cell Consistency Control. According to Hu Lei, the project’s quality director, each finished battery cell is subject to quality control according to the relevant requirements of GB/T 44265-2024, sampling rules of GB/T 2828.1, and more discerning General Inspection Level III and an AQL of 0.65. This ensures that the battery cells in the same batch achieve industry-leading levels in key indicators such as internal resistance difference, voltage difference, and capacity difference, providing a strong guarantee for the grouping and long-term stable operation of energy storage systems.

4.Safety, Temperature and Cycle-Life Verification. The R&D team conducts multi-dimensional tests on finished battery cells, including safety, high and low-temperature performance, and cycle performance, to verify their performance under different environmental and long-term operating conditions. This provides technical support for continuous product iteration and large-scale application.

Over 10 MWh Delivered: Advancing Sodium-ion Battery Commercialization

The successful delivery of over 10 MWh of sodium-ion battery cells is a comprehensive validation of Zonergy’s standardized manufacturing, full-process quality management, product consistency, and large-scale delivery for its sodium-ion battery products. It also marks a solid step for the Company’s sodium-ion battery products from project verification to commercial-scale deployment.

As the sodium-ion battery industry moves toward broader commercialization, Zonergy will continue investing in sodium-ion battery R&D, product development, manufacturing capabilities, and application expansion.

The company is accelerating the deployment of sodium-ion battery products across multiple applications, including:

  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • PV + energy storage systems
  • Vehicle start-stop batteries
  • Stationary and auxiliary power systems
  • Backup power systems
  • Low-temperature and high-altitude energy applications

Through continued field deployment and large-scale commercial projects, Zonergy aims to accelerate the industrialization of sodium-ion battery technology and expand its application across diverse energy scenarios.

Zonergy “Arctic” Sodium-ion Battery Cells for Extreme Environments

The 72174 170Ah sodium-ion battery cells delivered in this batch belong to Zonergy’s “Arctic” series, developed for energy storage applications in demanding environments such as plateaus, high-altitude regions, and low-temperature areas.

The series combines strong low-temperature performance, long cycle life, safety, and environmental adaptability, making it suitable for energy storage projects where conventional battery technologies may face performance challenges under extreme operating conditions.

In June 2025, Arctic series sodium-ion battery cells were deployed in Zonergy’s Shigatse sodium-ion battery energy storage project in Xizang. After more than one year of continuous operational monitoring and real-world environmental testing, the system has maintained stable performance, providing field validation of the cells under high-altitude and low-temperature conditions.

Zonergy currently offers multiple sodium-ion battery cell models, including 170Ah and 160Ah cells, with customized solutions available for specific project requirements.

By integrating sodium-ion battery cell R&D, manufacturing, system integration, and real-world energy storage applications, Zonergy is continuing to build its capabilities across the sodium-ion battery value chain and advance the commercial deployment of sodium-ion energy storage solutions.
