>> Interview with the product manager
Every new product is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Zonergy team. Behind the final product are countless hours of late-night work, the courage to go back to the drawing board time and again, and an unwavering commitment to refinement. For a glimpse into this process, we’ve invited Mr. Liao, Head of the Low-Power Product R&D Department, and Mr. Peng, Product Manager, to share “the story behind”.
The Story Behind Baldr 1000
Q: What prompted the development of this product?
Liao & Peng: Customers and the market are demanding more from portable power products. For years, Zonergy’s low-power DC portable power solutions have been highly popular in regions like Pakistan, Southeast Asia, and Africa. These units have reliably met essential electricity needs by powering entire households in areas with no grid or unstable power supply.
However, as societies develop, power needs are becoming more diverse. Users are now seeking additional features such as AC output ports, USB fast charging, and wireless phone charging, building upon the existing product foundations. Our market team promptly identified these evolving consumer demands and relayed them to the corporate decision-makers, creating the impetus for developing this new product.
Q: How long did the R&D process take?
Liao: The entire development and testing cycle took one year, involving approximately 300 tests of various scales.
Q: How do you accommodate diverse customer needs?
Liao: We offer models with Chinese standard plugs for the domestic market and European standard plugs for certain overseas markets. Custom plug specifications can also be accommodated upon request.
In terms of application scenarios, households can pair the unit with fixed solar panels installed in yards or on rooftops. For outdoor camping and emergency response, portable and foldable solar panels are more suitable. Where no grid power is available, simply unfold the photovoltaic panels under sunlight to initiate charging.
Q: Is personalized customization available? What cooperation models are offered?
Liao & Peng: Yes. This product is currently targeted at business clients and not yet available for individual consumers.
We can accommodate customization requests, including but not limited to exterior design, adjustments to solar panel capacity, and battery capacity modifications. If circuit modifications or redesigns are involved, the timeline may be extended slightly. However, the overall customization R&D cycle does not exceed six months.
We offer flexible cooperation models, including full-product OEM or supplying core power boards only.
Leveraging our robust R&D capabilities alongside reliable quality control and supply chain management, Zonergy ensures high-quality outcomes without compromising cost-effectiveness.
Q: Compared to similar products, what are its advantages?
Peng: Some products on the market are designed with mid-to-high-end needs in mind, such as camping. These products have limited usage scenarios and relatively low usage frequency.
Our product was developed to meet the daily power needs of users in areas with no electricity or power shortages, where usage frequency is extremely high. Therefore, in the selection of materials and technological development for the battery cells and mainboard, we strive to maximize lifespan and cycle count.
Q: Will there be 2.0 and 3.0 versions in the future?
Peng: As the cost of overseas solar panels decreases, we will release enhanced versions to further boost solar charging power. The current charging power is 200W, requiring 5 hours for a full charge. We aim to increase this to 500W to 1000W in the future. This will enable faster charging—reaching full capacity in 2 hours or even 1 hour—while also supporting higher-wattage solar panels.
Q: I’d like to learn more about pricing, partnership models, delivery timelines, etc.
Peng: Please send emails to : peng.shaohua@zonergy.com
